Obituary for George Strich
George Strich, age 89, of Stratford, beloved husband of Edith (Kelb) Strich, entered eternal rest on Wednesday, April 20, 2016 at St. Vincent's Medical Center, Bridgeport. George was born July 29, 1926 in Bridgeport, son of the late Nicholas and Susan (Piatak) Strich and had been a lifetime area resident.
George was a United States Army Veteran serving in Japan, the Philippines, and Germany where he met his wife. They married in Marburg, Germany and he brought his wife and her family to the United States.
George was a loving, gentle soul and shared 65 years of happiness with his wife, Edith. He was devoted to his family, creating the foundation of strength and love for future generations. George had a passion for reading, particularly science fiction and also showed a natural talent for painting and drawing. He was active in the Germania Social Club serving as the treasurer for several years. George worked hard to earn many engineering certifications and retired as a Method and Time Study Engineer at Dresser Industries.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, Edith include his children, Cheryl Strich Hoydick, Deborah Strich Nelson and her husband, Kevin; grandchildren Brittany Hoydick, Travis Nelson and Kelly Nelson; great-grandson Liam; sisters Helen Strich and Irene Strich Kalina and her husband Andrew Kalina; brothers-in-law Jurgen Kelb, Edgar Kelb, sister-in-law Irmgard Kelb Wetmore; several nieces and nephews and many close friends.
He was predeceased by his brothers and sister, John Strich, Michael Strich, Mary Strich Krisno.
Friends are invited to attend his funeral service on Monday, April 25, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. in Christ Episcopal Church, 2000 Main St., Stratford, CT 06615. Interment with full military honors will follow in St. John's Cemetery, Stratford, CT.
Friends may visit with his family Monday before service time from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. in the William R. McDonald Funeral Home, 2591 Main St., Stratford, CT.
