Obituary for Lucille Roberta Mitchell
Lucille Roberta Mitchell, affectionately known as Ms. Lue or Mama Lue, age 88, of Stratford, CT, previously of Margate, FL., Westbury, NY and Jamaica beloved wife of the late Stanford Mitchell, passed away February 28, 2018 in Milford Hospital, Milford, CT.

Lucille was born March 16, 1929 in Crown Land, Trelawny, Jamaica, West Indies, daughter of the late Simon White and Casline Salman and was adopted by her aunt, the late Lucille Roberta Salmon-Barnett and raised her with her own children as her own daughter.

Lucille migrated to Kingston Jamaica in search for a better life for her children where she met and married Stanford. Mama Lue was like a mini celebrity in the community of Drews Land where she operated her grocery shop for years. She was always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need, never hesitated to give credit to those when needed and entertained everyone from be hind the counter with her stories and wit. Her business was not just a shop for groceries, but a counselling center, court house, hospital, church, stadium, dance hall, community center, saloon, bus stop and more. She loved all children as her own, opened her shop with enthusiasm and had food and goodies to stretch over her fence to share with people passing by.
