Obituary for Albert Stephen Varga
Albert Stephen Varga, age 93, of Stratford, beloved husband of the late Marie Helene (Albus) Varga, passed away Tuesday, April 12, 2022 in Bridgeport Hospital. Mr. Varga was born December 10, 1928, in the Bronx, New York, son of the late Stephen and Anna (Schneider) Varga and had been a longtime resident of Lordship.
Albert was a United States Army veteran serving with the First Infantry Division in Germany during the Korean War and a retired automotive upholsterer. He was an avid New York Yankees fan, loved God, attending church and reading his Bible. He enjoyed fishing, traveling, antique auto shows, maintaining his home/yard, and spending time with family and friends. Albert loved telling stories of his childhood and military service. His fondest memories were of swimming/sailing with childhood friends in the Bronx. He will be deeply missed by his loved ones and friends.
Albert is survived by his son Randall Varga and his wife Charlotte of Shelton; dear friends Caroline and Bob Cremin of Stratford, and several nieces and nephews.
He is predeceased by a sister Helen Kelly.
Friends are invited to attend a funeral service officiated by Pastor Henry Brehm on Thursday, April 21, 2022, at 12:00 p.m. in the William R. McDonald Funeral Home, 2591 Main Street, Stratford.
Interment with military honors will follow at Huntington Lawn Cemetery, Shelton. Friends may visit with the family from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm before service at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to Disabled American Veterans and/or Wounded Warrior Project.
