Obituary for Alice (Alves) Ribeiro
Alice (Alves) Ribeiro, age 90 of Stratford, treasured wife of the late Antonio Ribeiro Sr., passed away peacefully Monday morning, December 5, 2016 in her home surrounded by her loving family. Mrs. Ribeiro was born January 31, 1926 in Newark, New Jersey, the daughter of the late Manuel and Luzia (Santos) Alves and had been an area resident since childhood.

Alice attended St. Augustine Grammar School and Central High School in Bridgeport, CT and was a retired microcircuit tech, having worked for GE, Singers and Casco.

In her youth, Alice enjoyed an active membership in the Cape Verdean Women's Social Club, Inc. of Bridgeport, CT. and throughout her life, maintained an appreciation for the exploration and examination of various cultures – an interest attested to through her love of travel by bus and plane, both nationally and internationally. Alice enjoyed WORD FIND puzzles, but not crosswords; jigsaws, but not "paint by numbers;" and heartfelt, flowery-type Hallmark cards, but not Shoebox or Maxine. Alice favored cowboy westerns over comedies; Dancing with the Stars over American Idol; Good Morning America over the TODAY show; Brad with Jennifer over "BRANGELINA;" and Mylie Cyrus over Taylor Swift. Alice preferred dresses over dungarees; curly hair over straight hair; and warm weather over cold – so much so that in her Golden years she spent her winters in the warm, rolling Hill Country of Belton and Temple, Texas with one of her sons. Alice enjoyed sewing and reading and clothes shopping and jewelry and candied sweet potatoes and BLTs and hard candies and pastries and much, much more...

But most of all as a natural caregiver, Alice enjoyed loving her friends and family, most especially her three cherished grandchildren.

Alice is predeceased by her husband, Antonio Ribeiro, Sr.; her son, Don Carlos (Dee) Ribeiro; and her three sisters, Eugenia (Jennie) Alves; Maria L. Ribeiro; and Anna Fernandes.

She is survived by her two sons, Antonio Ribeiro Jr. of Stratford and Jon Ribeiro of Boerne, TX; her daughter, Terrijoy Anderson of Stratford; and her three grandchildren, Ms. Blair Ribeiro of Ithaca, NY, and Justin and Austin Anderson of Stratford; as well as and many nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will take place on Friday, December 9, 2016 at 9:00 a.m. from the William R. McDonald Funeral Home, 2591 Main St., Stratford and at 10:00 a.m. in Saint Mark Roman Catholic Church, 500 Wigwam Lane, Stratford, for a Funeral Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will follow in St. John Cemetery, Stratford. Friends may call Thursday from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in the funeral home.
