Obituary for Alma Lorraine (Rivers) Norton
NORTON - Alma Lorraine (Rivers) Norton, age 95, of Stratford, beloved wife of the late Emery Norton, passed away peacefully Saturday, August 10, 2013 in the Lord Chamberlain Nursing Facility, Stratford. Mrs. Norton was born July 7, 1918 in Derby, CT., daughter of the late Joseph and Lillian (Horan) Rivers and grew up in Bridgeport. Dancing at the Ritz ballroom was one of her most precious memories with the big band era as her background music. After World War II, she married Emery (Buzz) Norton and later moved to the Lordship section of Stratford where she lived for 52 years. She was a devout Catholic and a member of Our Lady of Peace Church. She loved Lordship including the beach and the seawall. She thanked God for letting her live in such a beautiful place. Upon her retirement from DM Reads, she became an awarded and valued volunteer at the Baldwin Center. In later years she continued, volunteering as a resident of Lord Chamberlain Nursing facility. Lorraine leaves behind her devoted and loving daughter, Nancy Collins and her husband Thomas of Stratford; granddaughter, Marcie Reher and Nicholas Genga, great-granddaughter, Alyssa Uliano-Reher and Leonard Cedeno; and the apple of her eye, her precious great-great grandson, Leo Cedeno. The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to all the wonderful nurses, doctors and caregivers on the third floor at Lord Chamberlain, with special thanks to Liz Burnhauser for the dedicated care they all provided for many years. It was their kindness and compassion that made her time and passing there a comfort to us all. Friends are invited to attend her funeral service on Wednesday, August 14, 2013 at 9:00 a.m. in the William R. McDonald Funeral Home, 2591 Main St., Stratford and at 10:00 a.m. in Our Lady of Peace Roman Catholic Church, 651 Stratford Road, Stratford for a Funeral Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will follow in Saint Michael's Cemetery, Stratford. Friends may call Tuesday from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to either; The Our Lady of Peace Sanctuary Fund, 230 Park Blvd, Stratford, CT 06615 or the Lord Chamberlain Recreation Fund, 7003 Main St., Stratford, CT 06614.
