Serving Our Community Since 1951Angelina Pagliarella, 94, joined the love of her life, Remo Pagliarella, in heaven on May 2, 2023, 68 years and one day after they exchanged vows in Santa Francesca, Italy.
Angie was born in Santa Francesca on September 2, 1928, the second oldest of five children of Maria and Giovanni Pagliaroli.
She grew up in the midst of a country torn apart by WWII and, though hampered throughout the rest of her life by the effects of childhood polio, she never let anything stop her from living her best life.
Within weeks of marrying Remo in Italy in 1955, Angie ventured out alone to the U.S., anticipating her new husband’s arrival shortly afterward to start their new life in Connecticut, but not realizing she was already with child. Due to global circumstances, it was not meant to be, however, and the newlyweds did not reunite until three years after she set sail to the U.S. In the meantime, she raised her son, mostly alone and knowing little of the English language.
A lifelong and magical seamstress all her life, she ventured out on her own at age 55 to start her own alteration business, which she ran for the next several decades. She was well-known in the southern Connecticut area for last-minute, emergency clothing repairs and alterations, especially to many a frazzled bride-to-be.
Angie leaves behind her son, Carmen (Cheryl) Pagliarella of Seymour; her daughter, Emma (Vance) Dean of Southington; her daughter, Michelle, of Stratford; her grandchildren, Christopher Pagliarella (Jung), Mick Dean, and Laurel Dean; her great granddaughter and namesake, Angelina (“Lena”). She also leaves her sister, Assunta; brother-in-law Gino Pagliarella of Italy, sister-in-law, Liliana Rossi of Canada; and many, many nieces and nephews who loved her like a mother.
In addition to her beloved husband, she is reunited in heaven with her sisters and their spouses, Ida (John/Enrico) and Emma (Adelmo), her brother and his wife Amerigo (Pasqualina), nephews Joe and John; and nieces, Elaine and Patricia.
