Obituary for Ann Bernadette Ferris
Ferris - Ann Bernadette (Kurtzman) Ferris, age 89, of Stratford, passed away Wednesday, February 4, 2015 in Bridgeport Hospital. Mrs. Ferris was born July 20, 1925 in Vintondale, Pennsylvania, daughter of the late John and Juliana (Pliska) Kurtzman and had been a long time Connecticut resident. Ann retired from the State of Connecticut. She was the first woman Toll Collector and served as Secretary of CSEA Chapter 26. She was appointed as the first woman Supervisor in the statewide Connecticut Toll System. She was a long time member of Our Lady of Grace Church, singing in the choir as well as volunteering and attending the many church functions. As a young woman, Ann would sing solos at weddings and special events. Her interests included her love of her Chihuahua, Keechee and her many pets throughout the years. She was a loving mother, devoted to her family. Survivors include her two children Thomas Ferris and his wife Susan of Sparta, TN and Laura Ferris of Stratford with whom she resided; her daughter-in-law Rachel Ferris of Merrimack, NH; four grandchildren Julia Rosa, Victoria Bonckowski, Samuel Ferris and John David Ferris Jr. and his wife Wendy; five great-grandchildren Veronica, Miley, McKenzie, Oliver and Egan and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two sons Rodney Ferris Jr., John David Ferris Sr. and several of her brothers and sisters. Friends are invited to attend her Funeral Mass of Christian Burial on Tuesday, February 10, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. in Our Lady of Grace Church, Stratford. Interment will follow in Assumption-Greens Farms Cemetery, Westport. Friends may visit with the family Tuesday before Mass time from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. in the William R.
