Obituary for Arlene May (Crouthers) Throupe
Arlene May Crouthers Throupe, age 89, of Stratford, passed away Monday, February 27, 2023. Arlene was born April 10, 1933, in Stratford, daughter of the late Elizabeth Kilroy and Elmer Crouthers, and resided in Stratford for most of her life.
Arlene was baptized in Saint James Parish, was a member of Stratford Seniors, a retired financial analyst of Sikorsky Aircraft, U.T.C., Remington Arms CC, Avco Lycoming, Singers and other office management positions in her lifetime.
She was educated in the Bridgeport School System including Bassick HS., Graduate and E.E. Cortwright Scholar and the University of Bridgeport. She was selected to the Who’s Who of American Colleges and Universities, was active in the PTA, Little League, Education, fund raising, volunteer for Bridgeport Hospital, Red Cross, St. Mark’s School, and reader to the blind.
She was an avid Yankee and UCONN Girl’s basketball fan and never missed a game. She also enjoyed watching the Young and the Restless every afternoon. Her other interests lay in reading, theater and music and being an advocate of a broad education of her children. Her last years were centered around her grandchildren and renewing old friendships.
Survivors include daughter Allison Knapp and Michael of Milford, son-in-law Kelly Hamilton of Vermont, son Gerald S. Throupe of Stratford, son Ronald L. Throupe Jr. and spouse Danielle of Castle Rock, CO; grandchildren Brooke Hamilton, Eryn Throupe, Nicole Throupe, Taylor Throupe, and Kyle Knapp and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by daughter, Karen E. Throupe Hamilton.
In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Norma Pfriem Fund Bridgeport Hospital or to Colon Cancer Research, American Cancer Society in memory of her sweet Karen.
Friends are invited to attend a Memorial Service on Monday March 20, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. in the William R. McDonald Funeral Home, 2591 Main St., Stratford.
Friends may visit with the family from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home.
