Obituary for Armando J. Mansi
MANSI - Armando J. “Monday” Mansi, age 91, of Stratford, beloved husband of the late Rina (Lanaro) Mansi entered eternal life Thursday, February 6, 2014 in Saint Raphael’s Hospital, New Haven. Mr. Mansi was born January 10, 1923 in Bridgeport, son of the late Pantaleone and Jennie (Mirabella) Mansi and had been a lifetime area resident. Monday was a retired machinist for Remington Rand and a proud United States Army Air Corps Veteran of World War II. He served in the 647th Bomb Squadron in the 410th Bomb Group where he flew 66 missions over Germany as an Aerial Gunner. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, and an Air Medal with two Silver Oak Leaf Clusters. While he enjoyed family most of all, in his younger days he also enjoyed handball, playing pool, fishing, gardening, card games and was a great tinkerer. Survivors include his two children, Gail LaConte and her husband James of Orange, CT and Gary Mansi and his wife Carol of Hickory, NC; four grandchildren, Amy Ruggiero and her husband Matthew, Jill Van Beaurden and her husband Kevin, Kate Merrill and her husband Jon, and Tyler Mansi and his wife Sarah; seven great-grandchildren, Matthew and Morgan Ruggiero, MacGregor, Jackson, Noah and Sadie Van Beurden and Andrew Merrill; and several nieces and nephews. Monday was predeceased by four brothers and two sisters, Albert, Anthony, Thomas, Joseph, Annie and Theresa. Friends are invited to attend his Funeral Mass of Christian Burial on Monday, February 10, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. in Saint James, Church, Stratford. Interment with military honors will follow in Saint Michael’s Cemetery, Stratford. Friends may visit with the family Monday before Mass time from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. in the William R. McDonald Funeral Home, 2591 Main St, Stratford. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to either Connecticut Hospice, 100 Double Beach Road, Branford, CT 06405 or the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, Kansas 66675.
