Obituary for Barbara A. Lynch
Barbara A. Lynch, affectionately known as “Bobbie”, age 81, of Stratford, passed away Wednesday, December 1, 2021, in Bridgeport Hospital. Miss Lynch was born in Bridgeport on September 6, 1940, and was one of three daughters of the late Thomas P. and Mildred (Sullivan) Lynch.
Miss Lynch, as she was known to her students, was a beloved teacher in Stratford for 43 years. She began her teaching career in kindergarten at Birdseye School, then later moved on to Eli Whitney, Johnson House at Stratford Academy, and Center School. She was always delighted to run into her students around town, even years after they graduated.
Bobbie also loved spending time with her family, and doted on her nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews. She and Lillian could always be counted on to be there for baseball games, football games, school awards celebrations, and especially dance recitals. Dance shows, musicals, and plays were her favorites.
She also loved to travel with her family, especially to her favorite vacation spot in Delray Beach, Florida. Her trips to the beach always included a good book in her beach bag, and at home she always had something interesting to read next to her chair.
Barbara will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
Survivors include her two sisters, Lillian Lynch of Stratford and Kathleen Gerwien and her husband Walter of Milford; her nieces and nephews, Michael Gerwien (Deborah) of Orange, Eileen Bates (Doug) of Orange, MaryBeth Mingrone (Gene) of Milford and Thomas Gerwien (Jennifer) of Milford; great-nieces and great-nephews, Justin Gerwien (Shannon) and their daughter Ellory, Nicholas Gerwien, Alex Mingrone, Steven Mingrone, Emilie Gerwien, Jack Gerwien and Finnegan Gerwien, and several cousins.
Friends are invited to a Funeral Mass of Christian Burial on Monday, December 6, 2021 at 10:30 a.m. by meeting directly in St. Ann Church, 501 Naugatuck Avenue, Milford, CT. Interment will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Milford, CT. Friends and may visit with the family on Sunday, December 5, 2021 from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. in the William R. McDonald Funeral Home, 2591 Main St., Stratford, CT 06615. Face masks will be required.
