Obituary for Carole Powers
Carole Ruth (Hagen) Powers, age 88, beloved wife for 60 years of the late William Emil Powers of Stratford, passed away peacefully on Friday, February 17, 2017. Carole was born in Batavia, New York on July 3, 1928. She was raised in Chatham, NJ and graduated from Penn State University with a B.S. Degree in Home Economics and Family Studies.
Carole and Bill made their home in Stratford and Pompano Beach, Florida where they spent the last 18 winters and loved the view of the ocean from their balcony. Carole was active with Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts, she loved knitting, gardening, sewing and cross stitching, making candles and playing computer games on her laptop. She was an active member of the First Congregational Church of Stratford.
Survivors include daughters Kimberly Wilhelm and her husband Gary of Milford and Victoria Mackbach and her husband Glenn of Southbury; one son Lawrence Powers and a sister Jeanne Larned of Lewes, Delaware; ten grandchildren Amy (Wilhelm) St. Germain and her husband George, Lauren Wilhelm and fiancé Ryan Lavelle, Bryan Wilhelm, Jason Visokay, Andrew Visokay and wife Katherine, Jessica Visokay and Luke, Glenn and Samantha Mackback, and Sarah and William Powers; two great grandchildren Mason St. Germain and Giuliana Visokay and several nieces and nephews.
Friends are invited to attend her funeral on Thursday, February 23, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. in the First Congregational Church of Stratford, 2301 Main St., Stratford. Interment will follow in Union Cemetery, Stratford. The William R. McDonald Funeral Home is in care of arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Carole's memory to the First Congregational Church of Stratford, 2301 Main St., Stratford, CT 06615.
