Obituary for David William Charlesworth
David William Charlesworth, age 73, passed away suddenly Saturday, August 7, 2021. He was born April 23, 1948 in Washington, D.C. to Velma Smith Charlesworth and the late George H. Charlesworth Sr.
David graduated from Bunnell High School, Housatonic Community College and the Charter Oak University. Although he was unable to pursue a career he was a brilliant mathematician. At the age of twenty-two he was working toward discovering a new way of factoring numbers. The president of the American Mathematical Society told David that he had re-discovered Fermats Theory of Factoring Numbers from the seventeenth century. At a later date, Underwood Dudley, President of the American Mathematical Society, told the Charlesworth family that he had retained all of David’s work in his office.
David Charlesworth was a gentleman, a Gentle Man, soft spoken, courteous, non-egotistical and a person of great faith. He never took a meal without first thanking God for what he was about to eat. David spoke very little but, if he was asked a question or thought he had something to contribute to a conversation, you could bet that what he had to say was completely accurate.
David devoted a large part of his life caring for his mother who is nearly 102 years old. He accepted and navigated the challenges of his life, which were many, without ever complaining.
He was predeceased by his father, George H. Charlesworth Sr. and his angelic sister, Bonnie Tozzi.
He is survived by his mother, Velma Charlesworth, his brother George, sister-in-law, Eileen, niece and Goddaughter, Dory, nephews Ezekiel, Michael and Jason and great nephew, James Charlesworth,
The last three years of David’s life were enhanced by Claudette Wright, whom we think of as his angel.
David taught all of us who loved him many lessons and we are forever grateful for having him in our lives.
A memorial service will be announced. A private burial will be held in Putney Cemetery, Stratford.
Contributions in David’s Memory may be made to the Stratford United Methodist Church, 2600 Main St, Stratford, CT 06615, www.sumcct.org.
