Obituary for Deborah (Brown) Benson
Deborah “Debby” Benson, nee Brown, 75, of Shelton and beloved wife of the late Donald R. Benson, passed away peacefully on September 22, 2020 at Connecticut Hospice in Branford. Debby was born May 25, 1945 in Lyndonville, Vermont, daughter of the late George and Barbara (Hutchinson) Brown and had been a longtime area resident.
Debby worked as a meat wrapper at Stop & Shop prior to working and retiring from AVCO Army Engine Plant. She loved to write poetry and had published works, enjoyed ink drawing and oil painting, was an avid perennial gardener and bird aficionado.
Debby is predeceased by her siblings Lisbeth A. Sperling (Ronald), Nancy Lou Brown, Brian R. Brown, Dennis G. Brown and nephew Keith Brown.
She is survived by her stepson Robert Benson, (Kristina), and two grandsons Collin and Connor.
During her battle with cancer, she lived with her beloved niece, Dawn Tomasko (Andrew), where she enjoyed family gatherings with Sean Tomasko (Amanda), Grace Stedman (Cade) and Kate Tomasko and great nephews Riley and Liam Tomasko.
Additional survivors include cousins Russell Brown, Martha Colby and Doris Eleanor Brown. Nieces and nephews Cheryl A. McCuen, Gregory Sperling, Diane Brown, Dennis G. Brown, Michelle M. Brown,Kim M. Gardner, Tracey A. Brown, Christopher J. Brown, and Jason B. Brown.
In recent years, she was overjoyed to establish a relationship with her son David Gray of Concord, North Carolina and grandchildren Jordan and Chelsea Gray of Connecticut.
Debby enjoyed exceptional friendships with childhood friend Lee, also Mary Ellen and Chip Terlaga.
There will be no calling hours.
A funeral mass will be held at Our Lady of Peace, 651 Stratford Road, Lordship, CT on Saturday, September 26, at 9:30 a.m.
Due to COVID-19 virus restrictions, guests will be asked to wear masks and adhere to social distancing requirements.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts in Debby’s memory may be made to Connecticut Hospice, 100 Double Beach Road, Branford, CT 06405.
