Obituary for Donald E. Wolter

Donald E. Wolter, age 89, of Stratford, beloved husband of the late Marylou (Legouri) Wolter and the late Pearl (Beaudoin) Wolter, passed away Wednesday, April 26, 2017 in Stratford. Mr. Wolter was born May 11, 1927 in Danbury, son of the late Victor and Hazel (Durgy) Wolter and had been a lifetime area resident. 

Don was a United States Navy Veteran of World War II and served on the USS Vella Gulf which was present at Tokyo Bay during the signing of the Japanese surrender. He retired as a supervisor after 40 years at Otis Elevator. He was an active member of the Masons and the Shriners and the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church where he was a member of the choir.  Don was also a dedicated blood donor and avid golfer. 

Survivors include his daughter, Carol Wolter-Gustafson and her husband Paul of Jamaica Plain, MA; three step-children, Joe Adelizzi and his wife Barbara of New Fairfield, Laurine Kovacs and her husband Lawrence of Shelton and Cherone Cioffi and her husband Richard of Shelton; two grandchildren, Melissa Gustafson-Griffin and her husband Brent and Rebecca Wolter-Gustafson; four step-grandchildren, Lauren and Jordan Kovacs, Gina and Richard Cioffi; two great grandchildren, Katherine and Claire and several nieces and nephews. 

 He was predeceased by his sister, Anne Adams. 

Friends are invited to attend his funeral service on Tuesday, May 2, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. by meeting directly at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 406 White Plains Rd, Trumbull, CT. Interment with full military honors will follow in Saint Michael's Cemetery, Stratford. Friends may visit with the family Monday from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in the William R. McDonald Funeral Home, 2591 Main St., Stratford. 

In lieu of flowers, donations in Donald's memory may be made to Shriner's Hospital for Children, 2900 Rocky Point Dr., Tampa, FL  33607, www.shrinershospital.org.
