Obituary for Dorothy (Smerglinolo) Gallant
Dorothy (Smerglinolo) Gallant, age 76, of Bridgeport, beloved wife of the late Joseph Gallant, Sr., passed away Wednesday, September 30, 2015 in CT Hospice, Branford, surrounded by her loving children after a long and courageous battle with Alzheimer's disease. Mrs. Gallant was born in Bridgeport March 28, 1939, daughter of the late Frederick and Dorothy Smith Smerglinolo and had been a lifetime area resident.
Dorothy married the love of her life in 1956 and was a devoted wife. They shared a love like no other. Prior to her illness, Dorothy devoted her life to her family. She enjoyed cooking, shopping and an occasional trip to the casino. She had a love for music and could usually be found singing and dancing in the kitchen.
She will be sorely missed by her four devoted children, Joseph Gallant Jr. of Waterbury, Christopher Gallant and his wife Megan of Stratford, Kimberly Romano and her husband Craig Sr. of Stratford, and Cynthia Lucas of Milford; eight cherished grandchildren, Leanne Ready and her husband Christopher, Craig Romano Jr., Amy Romano, Ashley Chapman and her husband Michael, Michael Lucas, Madison, Cody and Chase Gallant; four adored great grandchildren, Myles Robert and Nora Dorothy Ready and Landon Michael and Harper Grace Chapman, one brother Michael Smerglinolo(Gail), two sisters, Clara Messina and Helen DeNitto, in-laws Art Gallant (Gustie), Shirley Gallant and Madeline Smerglinolo, as well as many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her brother, Frederick Smerglinolo, and brothers-in-law, Jack Messina, Ralph DeNitto and Al Gallant and sister-in-law Lena Posser.
Friends are invited to attend her Funeral Mass of Christian Burial celebrated by Father Bruce Roby on Tuesday, October 6, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. by meeting directly in Saint James Church, 2110 Main St, Stratford. Interment will follow in Mt. Grove Cemetery, Easton. Friends may visit with the family Monday evening from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the William R. McDonald Funeral Home, 2591 Main St., Stratford.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the Connecticut Hospice nurses and staff for their loving care and compassion.
