Obituary for Elaine Claire Smith
Elaine Claire (Bessette) Smith, age 92, previously of Stratford, beloved wife of the late Paul H. Smith, Sr. passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 9, 2017 in the Hebrew Home & Hospital, West Hartford. Mrs. Smith was born in Springfield, Massachusetts September 26, 1924, daughter of the late Joseph Leon and Maria Ida (Gouger) Bessette.
Elaine attended Baypath College where she met her husband Paul at a dance for Marines about to deploy for WW II. She was very involved in Genealogy and held office in a Genealogy Society validating lineage and traveled to Europe to obtain records to trace her family tree. Elaine and Paul had a long and loving marriage setting a wonderful example for their family. She was a kind and gentle soul and will be remembered fondly.
Elaine is survived by her five children, Paul H. Smith, Jr., James Smith and his wife Linda, Deborah Jones and her husband Spike, Rosemary Smith and her husband Barry Simson, Sarah Adanti and her husband Mark, seven grandchildren, six great grandchildren; her sister Jessie Harris of Texas; her brother Robert Bessette of Shelburne Falls, MA, who turned 100 years old this past November and several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the staff of Hebrew Healthcare in West Hartford for the care they provided to our Mom this past year.
Friends are invited to attend her funeral service on Friday, February 17, 2017 at 12:00 p.m. in the William R. McDonald Funeral Home, 2591 Main St, Stratford. Interment will be private. Friends may visit with her family Friday before service time from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. in the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to The Hebrew Center for Health and Rehabilitation in memory of Elaine Smith, One Abrahms Blvd, West Hartford, CT 06117.
