Obituary for Elizabeth Ann Vagasky
Elizabeth Ann "Betty" (Kaminski) Vagasky, age 85, of Stratford, beloved wife of George Vagasky, passed away Friday morning, May 13, 2016 in The Golden Hill Health Care Center, Milford. Mrs. Vagasky was born September 6, 1930 in Nanticoke, Pennsylvania, daughter of the late Leonard and Anna (Sakowitz) Kaminski and was a long time Stratford resident.
Betty was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother. She was an active member of the Baldwin Center, a member of the Stratford Raymond Goldbach VFW Post 9460 where she and her husband were extremely involved. She volunteered at their annual Christmas parties where they would organize bus trips from the West Haven Veterans Hospital to the Stratford VFW, as well as service and cater the party. She also volunteered in many other capacities at the West Haven VA Hospital including their Bingo. When her children were small, she was very active in St. James School and volunteered for recess and lunch duty. Also, along with her husband, she was instrumental in the construction of the Stratford WWII Memorial on Academy Hill, Stratford.
Survivors, in addition to her husband, include her daughter, Carol Ann Plichta and her husband, Ted of Nebraska; four grandchildren, Bradley Vagasky, Andrew Vagasky, Michelle Belanger and Lisa Belanger; a sister, Irene Carter and her husband James of Trumbull and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by a son, Stephen Vagasky.
Friends are invited to attend a Funeral Mass of Christian Burial on Monday, May 16, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. in St. James Church, Stratford. Interment will follow in Union Cemetery, Stratford. Friends may visit with her family Monday morning before Mass time from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. in the William R. McDonald Funeral Home, 2591 Main St. Stratford.
