Obituary for Frederick J. Clemens

Frederick J. “Bud” Clemens, age 92, of the Lordship section of Stratford, beloved husband of the late Virginia P. (Kruse) Clemens, passed away peacefully in his home Sunday, September 7, 2014 with his family by his side. Mr. Clemens was born on September 11, 1921, son of the late Fred H. and Mary Frances (Gorman) Clemens in Troy NY., where he grew up with his sister, Marjorie. Bud who retired as an Aeronautical Engineer from Sikorsky Aircraft was a United States Army Air Corp Veteran of World War II serving from 1942 through 1945 in the 8th Air Force in England on a B-17, “dropping the bombs” as he put it. He graduated from The Aeronautical University in Chicago with a Bachelor's Degree in Aeronautical Engineering, was a former member of the 4th Degree Knights of Columbus in New York State, the institute of Aeronautical Science, the Society of Automotive Engineers, was past president of the Bridgeport Toastmasters International, a member of the 39th Bob Group Association, a communicant of Our Lady of Peace Church in Lordship serving as a Senior Altar Server and Eucharistic Minister, a member of the Stratford US Coast Guard Auxiliary for 30 years, serving as Vice Flotilla Commander for three terms and Flotilla Commander for four terms and taught “Safe Boating Courses” for the state of Connecticut and the US Coast Guard Auxiliary for thirty years. Survivors include his two children, Richard Clemens of Stratford and Linda Marie Giannettino and her husband Peter of Milford; daughter-in-law, Cindi Clemens of St Thomas; two grandchildren, Patrick Clemens of Massachusetts and Barbara Stage of Enfield, CT; two great-grandchildren, Amelia Rose and Christopher and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a son and daughter, Michael and Lorraine. Friends are invited to attend a funeral service on Saturday, September 13, 2014 at 9:00 a.m. by meeting directly at Our Lady of Peace Church, 651 Stratford Road, Stratford, CT. Entombment with military honors will follow in Saint Michael’s Garden Mausoleum, Stratford. Friends may visit with the family Friday evening from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the William R. McDonald Funeral Home, 2591 Main St., Stratford, CT. In lieu of flowers donations in memory of Mr. Clemens may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project , 4899 Belfort Road, Suite 300, Jacksonville, Florida 32256.
