Obituary for Helen (Oakley) Wood
Helen Elsie (Oakley) Wood, age 92, of Stratford, beloved wife of the late George Thomas Wood Sr., passed away peacefully Saturday, November 10, 2018 in her home surrounded by her loving family.
Mrs. Wood was born July 8, 1926 in Bridgeport, daughter of the late John and Ann (Taylor) Oakley and had been long time Stratford resident.
Helen enjoyed raising her family in the Lordship section of Stratford and was an avid volunteer at her children’s schools and church, but her favorite pastime was doting on her grandson Thomas. Helen’s door was always open and her neighbors became her extended family. She always enjoyed the holidays and gatherings of friends and family.
Survivors include her children, George (Tom) Wood and his husband Tim Campbell of South Carolina and Kathy (Wood) Signore and her husband Raymond of Stratford; four grandchildren, Thomas Signore, Brandi, Mandi and Tiffany Campbell; three great grandchildren Carter, Dawson and Blakelee Campbell; her devoted caregiver Sunny who became like a daughter to her; one sister, Beatrice Woodland; a foster sister Lois Eckert; her dear friends the Rome and Rende families; many cousins, nieces and nephews and her friends at the Village Square Condos where she was known as the “Dancing Queen.”
She was predeceased by one daughter, Peggy Mae Wood.
Friends are invited to attend a Memorial Mass celebrated by Reverend Laura Queen on Saturday, November 17, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. in Christ Episcopal Church, 2000, Main St., Stratford, CT 06615.
A continuation of the celebration of Helens life will follow in the Church Hall.
