Obituary for Ignacia M. Santiago

Ignacia M. Santiago, age 93, of Stratford, beloved wife of the late Jose Santiago, Sr., passed away Wednesday May 22, 2024. Mrs. Santiago was born April 5, 1931, in Orocovis, Puerto Rico, daughter of the late Marciano and Isabel Castro. She has been a longtime area resident.

As a youngster, Ignacia grew up on her parent’s farm in Puerto Rico. She spent that time riding horses, playing with her siblings, and cooking with her mom. She loved all animals, especially puppies. Throughout her life, she always had a fondness towards nature and enjoyed taking walks and tending to her gardens. Ignacia met her loving husband, Jose Santiago, Sr., when he opened a mission in her town of Orocovis, in 1948. On October 6, 1951, the two married and celebrated their ceremony in her parents’ home. In 1952, the couple relocated to the states, where they built a life with family, friends and their church.

A fun fact about Ignacia is that she loved watching Jeopardy, Wheel of Fortune and Family Feud, and her excitement for the shows was contagious. Her greatest joy stemmed from being with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, whom she adored. Ignacia had a deep faith and love for the Lord that was evident in the way she lived her life and how she cared for others. She will always be remembered for her humor, her tenacity, and her kind and generous heart. A loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, Ignacia will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing and loving her.

Survivors include her children, Aida Alicia Rosado, Dimaris Garcia, & son-in-law Angel Garcia, Samuel Santiago & daughter-in-law Felicita Santiago, Eliazar Santiago, Margarita Leso & son-in-law Andrew Leso, Jose Santiago Jr. & daughter-in-law Doreen Santiago, Priscila Santiago, Dan Santiago & daughter-in-law Melissa Santiago, as well as 22 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren, two sisters, and numerous nephews and nieces.

She is predeceased by her loving husband Jose Santiago, Sr., beloved grandsons Justin Rosado and Joseph Rosado and beloved son-in-law Justino Rosado.

Friends and family are invited to attend her funeral service on Tuesday, May 28, 2024 at 12:00 p.m. in the William R. McDonald Funeral Home, 2591 Main ST., Stratford.

Friends and family may visit with her before service time from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. in the William R. McDonald Funeral Home, 2591 Main ST., Stratford.
