Obituary for Joan Katherine (Washburn) Miller
Joan Katherine (Washburn) Miller, age 85, beloved wife of the late Gerald Miller, of Milford passed, away peacefully Thursday, June 18, 2015 in St. Joseph’s Manor, Trumbull after a short illness. Joan, the youngest of 13 children, was born July 27, 1929 in Bridgeport, daughter of the late Robert and Dora Mae (Clarkson) Washburn of Willow St., Bridgeport.
Joan was an active member at the Milford YMCA Pool Aerobics and she regularly played cards at the Milford Senior Center. She was also a descendant of the Chilton, Cooke, Winslow and Latham families who arrived on the Mayflower.
Survivors include her four children Deborah Miller and her husband Mike Raflowitz, Susan Simm and her husband Roy, Thomas Miller and Donald Miller; five grandchildren Tom Miller, Jennifer Resto, Elizabeth Raflowitz, Taylor Simm and Jamie Simm; four great-grand children Kevin and Makenzie Miller, Ryan Rosado and Evan Resto and many nieces and nephews.
She is also survived by one sister, Ruby Kuehn and predeceased by eleven of her brothers and sisters, Hilda Reilly, Thomas, Stanley, George Hazen, Raymond, Carl, Helen Rees, Donald, Robert who was killed in WWII, Dorothy Miller and Lois Svendberg.
Friends are invited to visit with her family on Monday, June 22, 2015 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. followed by a Funeral Service celebrated by Rev. Maurice Maroney at 11:30 in the William R. McDonald Funeral Home, 2591 Main St., Stratford, CT and a luncheon at Gusto’s Restaurant, 225 Boston Post Rd, Milford, CT 06460. Interment in St. Michael's Cemetery, Stratford will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a local charity of your choice or to Trumbull Community Women, P.O. Box 168, Trumbull, CT 06611.
