Obituary for John Burton Hammond
John Burton Hammond, age 88, passed peacefully at the home of his son, surrounded by the loving family and pets who meant so much to him. John was a lifelong resident of Stratford, his birthplace, save for the time spent on board Navy Carriers during his service in WW II. He is predeceased by his beloved wife, Alma Duncan Hammond whom he was eagerly looking forward to rejoining. He is survived by his children, Florence and Joseph Heck of Stratford, CT, John B. and Elizabeth Hammond of Naugatuck, CT and Grace and John Golias of Seymour, CT; as well as grandchildren, Kathy and Thomas Gardecki, Michael and Amanda Heck and Michael and Jaime Hammond and great-grandchildren, Rachel, Samantha and Nicole Gardecki and Michael and Max Hammond. He was a member of America St. John’s Lodge No. 8. for many years and retired from both Raymark and Stop and Shop. At the request of the family, services will be private. The William R. McDonald Funeral Home of Stratford is in charge of arrangements.
