Obituary for John H. McGrath
John H. McGrath, age 82, of Stratford, beloved husband of the late Patricia Ann (Reck) McGrath for 60 years, passed away Wednesday, August 24, 2016 at West River Health Care Center in Milford, CT. Mr. McGrath was born September 15, 1933 in Bridgeport, CT, son of the late Walter and Evelyn (Schock) McGrath.
John grew up in Kentucky and Pennsylvania and eventually moved back to Fairfield where he met the love of his life, Pat. Married at a young age, they started a family and moved to New Hampshire and California before returning to Connecticut to reside near the beach in Lordship.
John was a retired Technical Writer for Sikorsky Aircraft, a former Stratford Town Councilman, and a member of the Lordship Father's Club. In addition to spending time with his family, John enjoyed photography, his ham radio, and dabbling in electronics.
John will be dearly missed by his three children: Jim McGrath, Susan Hovey and her husband Steve, and Ed McGrath and his wife Toby. He also leaves behind his cherished grandchildren: Paul and Ryan Hovey and Megan, Brian, and Liam McGrath and several nieces and nephews.
John was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He cared for everyone he met and enjoyed spending time with all of us.
Family and friends are invited to meet with the family on Friday, August 26, 2016 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. in the William R. McDonald Funeral Home, 2591 Main St., Stratford, CT. His funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home. Interment will be in Union Cemetery, Stratford, CT.
