Obituary for John J. Gallagher
John J. Gallagher, Jr. age 92, beloved husband of Anne Begley Gallagher of Stratford passed away in Bridgeport Hospital August 1, 2013 after a brief illness. Born in New Haven , son of the late John J. and Susan McDermott Gallagher of West Haven , he resided in Stratford since 1961. A World War II U.S. Army Veteran, John served in the European theater. He was a retired engineer who worked at GE, Perkin Elmer and Norden. He was a member of the Engineering Society and served on the Board of the Stratford Library. John was a longtime, active parishioner of St. James and sang in the Resurrection Choir at countless funerals. Survivors, in addition to Anne, his wife of 65 years, include three sons and their spouses, John and Patricia Gallagher of Maryville, TN, Mark and Judith Gallagher of Ridgefield and Michael and Angela Gallagher of Stratford; a brother Thomas Gallagher and his wife Rose of Jamestown, NC; seven grandchildren Jessica, Joshua, Jacob, Patrick, Meghan, Karin and Melissa; great grandchildren Michael Heath, Courtney, Miyo, Taka and Parker; step grandchildren and nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his daughter Ellen Mary Gallagher, grandson Christopher and his sister Catherine Morse. Friends are invited to attend his funeral on Monday, August 5, 2013 at 9:00 am from the William R. McDonald Funeral Home, 2591 Main St., Stratford and at 10:30 am in St. James Church, Stratford. Interment will follow in St. Lawrence Cemetery, West Haven. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Alzheimer’s Assoc. of Connecticut, 2075 Silas Deane Highway, Rocky Hill, CT 06067.
