Obituary for John "Jack" Monroe
John “Jack” Monroe, age 75 of Milford, passed away on Wednesday, May 30, 2018. Jack was born in Bridgeport on June 21, 1942 and was the son of Elizabeth Hogan Monroe and Edward Kegler Monroe.
He was a lifelong Stratford resident before moving to Milford in more recent years.After graduating from Stratford High School, he attended the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York City.
He was a U.S. Marine Veteran and prior to his retirement, he was the owner of Monroe Shade and Blind Company for many years.Writing and the sport of Boxing were his passions. He was a highly regarded Boxing Historian who was inducted into the Boxing Hall of Fame in 2015. He enjoyed writing poetry as well and travelled extensively in his younger years.
Survivors include three sisters and their husbands, Joan and Joseph Tiberio of Milford, Lenore Monroe and Alan Frolich of Tucson, Arizona and Carol Monroe and Evangelos Xistris of Fairfield. He also leaves five nieces and nephews and their spouses.
Friends are invited to visit with his family on Tuesday, June 5, 2018, from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the William R. McDonald Funeral Home, 2591 Main Street, Stratford. Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Stratford Cat Project.
A celebration of his life will be held at 7:00 pm in the Funeral Home, following the visitation.
