Obituary for João V. Andrade
João V. Andrade, 94, (known as Johnny), died July 5, 2020 at his home peacefully with family by his side. Johnny was born May 29, 1926, in New Bedford, Massachusetts to Victorino Andrade and Ana Rufina (Andrade) Livramento. He was a resident of Stratford, CT for over 60 years.

Johnny served at the Engineer Center, US Army, Fort Belvoir, Virginia with an honorable discharge in September 27, 1952.

He worked at Bridgeport Brass Company (National Distillery) over 26 years and Casco Product Corporation until his retirement in 1990 at the age of 65.

He was a member of St. James Church and 4th degree of the Stratford Knight of Columbus Council 2370, Holy Name of Jesus.

He was a member and past President of the Cape Verdean Social Club of Bridgeport, Connecticut and a longtime member of the Stratford YMCA.

Johnny enjoyed playing a traditional Cape Verdean board game with his brothers. He was known for his sharp outfits and smile. He enjoyed socializing and dancing with family and friends at any event. He was a novice portrait artist, an avid swimmer and enjoyed playing soccer. He also enjoyed watching boxing, wrestling, soccer and old westerns on TV.

He is survived by his wife, Isabel Andrade of Stratford, CT; children, John (Arvetta) Andrade of West Haven, Susan Silva of New Haven, Diane Andrade Thomas, Ronald (Luisa) Andrade and Robert Andrade all of Stratford, CT; several grand and great grandchildren; several nephews and nieces. Also, his brothers, Jose (Luiza) Andrade of West Haven, Joseph Livramento of Bridgeport; sister, Maria Silva of New Bedford, Massachusetts; sisters-in-law, Ana Dos Santos of Portugal, Maria Livramento of Orange and Rosa Cruz of Stratford.

He was preceded in death by his parents Victorino Andrade and Ana Rufina (Andrade) Livramento; brothers, Antonio Andrade, Manuel Andrade and sister, Rufina Paris.

Services and Interment will be private.
