Joseph Anthony Gallant Sr, age 79, beloved husband and sole caregiver of Dorothy (Smerglinolo) Gallant, entered eternal life on November 9, 2013 in his home surrounded by his loving family. Joseph was born on June 22, 1934 and was the son of the late Adrian and Marie Ann Gallant and had been a lifetime Bridgeport resident. Joseph was a United States Army Veteran and a retired Plant Supervisor for Shell Oil Company. He was a truly devoted husband and loved spending time with his family. Joseph has spent the last five years caring for his wife Dorothy and spending time with his children and grandchildren who were the light of his life. He always put everyone’s needs before his own and will always be remembered for that by all of his family and friends. Survivors, in addition to his beloved wife, include four cherished children, Joseph Gallant Jr. of Waterbury, Christopher Gallant and his wife Megan of Stratford, Kimberly Romano and her husband Craig Sr. of Stratford, and Cynthia Lucas of Milford; eight adored grandchildren, Leanne Ready and her husband Christopher, Craig Romano Jr., Amy Romano, Ashley Lucas and her fiancé Michael Chapman, Michael Lucas, Madison Gallant, Cody Gallant and Chase Gallant; two great-grandsons, Landon Chapman and Myles Ready; one brother, Arthur Joseph Gallant and his wife Gustie of Stratford; in-laws, Clara Messina, Ralph and Helen DeNitto, Michael and Gail Smerglinolo, Madeline Smerglinolo and Shirley Gallant, as well many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by one brother, John Albin (Al) Gallant and one sister, Mary Lena Posser, and two brothers-in-law, Jack Messina and Frederick Smerglinolo. Friends are invited to attend his funeral service on Wednesday, November 13, 2013 at 9:30 a.m. in the William R. McDonald Funeral Home, 2591 Main St., Stratford, followed by a Funeral Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m in Saint James Church, Stratford. Interment with military honors will follow in Mt. Grove Cemetery, Easton. Friends may visit with the family from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
