Obituary for Joseph M. Wheway Sr.
Joseph M. Wheway, Sr., age 50 of Stratford, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family Tuesday, February 25, 2014 in St. Vincent Medical Center, Bridgeport. He was born in Bridgeport, February 12, 1964 son of the late Richard and Josephine Joan (Elliano) Wheway. Joe was a life long Stratford resident and was an I.T. Specialist with Uniscribe and EBM. He was an advocate for the homeless and active collecting clothing for The Bridge at St. James Church. Survivors include his children Sigourney, Alexis and Joseph M. Wheway, Jr; three sisters Mary-Jo (Joseph) McCorry, Alice (Joe) Fiorillo, Thia (Rich) Beniash; three Brothers Richard (Pat) Wheway, John (Chris) Wheway and Thomas (Paul) Wheway; his former wife, Candace Boyle Whalen and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews that he adored. He was predeceased by a sister Christine Gardner. Friends are invited to attend his Funeral Mass of Christian Burial on Tuesday, March 4, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. in St. James Church, Stratford. Interment will follow in St. John Cemetery, Monroe. Friends may visit with the family Tuesday morning before Mass time from 8:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. in the William R. McDonald Funeral Home, 2591 Main St., Stratford. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to The Bridge at St. James, 2110 Main St., Stratford, CT 06615.
