Obituary for Kathleen Elizabeth Sorensen
SORENSEN - Kathleen Elizabeth (LaBrecque) Sorensen, age 82, beloved wife of sixty-two years to Donald Neil Sorensen of Woodbridge and previously of Stratford and Shelton, passed away Monday, December 8, 2014 in her home surrounded by her loving family. Kathleen was born October 26, 1932 in Bridgeport, daughter of the late Emile and Katherine (Devlin) LaBrecque. Kathleen, a graduate of Stratford High School Class of 1950, was retired from The Town of Stratford as a Manager of Food Services. She enjoyed many years at St. James Parish Stratford where she and her childhood sweetheart Don were married. She was a founding member of the St. James Mother’s Circle, served on the Ladies Guild and had many active roles in the church. She had a love of shopping, swimming, reading and traveling the world with Don. Kathleen’s fondest memories were spending time with her family and best friends in Hillsborough, New Hampshire at their lake house. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her children Donna (James) Mihalovic, Patricia (James) Farrell, Paul (Karen) Sorensen and Kristen (Keith) Borgognone; her grandchildren Christopher Farrell, Jennifer Edwards, Erin Cavanaugh, Colleen Hogue, Melissa Verdura, Jessica Criscuolo, Kaitlin Fritz, Brett and Brynn Borgognone; her great grandchildren Alyson, Olivea, Shane, Jack, Paige, Jake, Christopher, Ryan, and Giuliana. Kathleen is also survived by her loving sister Marie (LaBrecque) Vitka and her husband John; her sister-in-law Jean (Sorensen) Klansky and her brother-in-law Gerald Sorensen. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her infant daughter Gail Barbara, her brother Frances and his wife Shirley LaBrecque, her loving Mother and Father-in-law John and Lillian, brothers-in-law Jack, William, David and sisters-in-law Marjorie, Evelyn and Barbara. Kathleen will be sadly missed by her many friends, nieces, and nephews. Her family would like to thank the staff of St. Vincent’s Medical Center and Oxford Visiting Nurse Services; her trusted team of Dr. Pat Masone, Dr. Philip Simkovitz, Dr. Al Dimeo and Dr. Kevin Lenhart. Friends are invited to her funeral service on Saturday, December 13, 2014 at 9:15 a.m. in the William R. McDonald Funeral Home, 2591 Main St., Stratford, followed by a Funeral Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. in the Our Lady of the Assumption Church, 81 Center Road (Rte. 114), Woodbridge, CT. Interment will follow in Mt. Saint Peter Cemetery, Derby, CT. Friends may visit with the family Friday evening from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the Funeral Home.
