Obituary for Kevin R. McDonald
Kevin R. McDonald, age 67, of Bastrop, TX and formerly of Stratford, CT, beloved partner of Rita K. Andrews,  passed away suddenly Tuesday, May 2, 2017 at home in Texas. Kevin was born June 29, 1949, in Bridgeport, son of the late William R. and Norma C. (Booth) McDonald.
Kevin was a graduate of Bunnell High School and received a degree in Photography.  He was an accomplished, professional photographer in the fashion and glamour industry in New York City where he lived for many years.  Working for Pierre Cardin, Jordache and Starter Sportswear afforded him the opportunity to travel the world and experience various cultures.
In his younger years, Kevin enjoyed snow and water skiing and always had a keen eye for archery and target shooting. Kevin was a cowboy at heart.  Western movies, horses, loud trucks, cowboy hats and boots were some of his favorite things. After years in the fashion industry, he combined his two passions and began equine photography for the NRHA Association.
In 2008, Kevin relocated to Texas to pursue what he enjoyed most – raise horses, capture stunning photos and share his many talents with others. Texas was where he belonged, and we are thankful he was able to enjoy his final years in a place he loved so much.  Kevin faced many hardships in life but always pulled himself up by his bootstraps. He was one of a kind and will always be in our hearts.
In addition to Rita, survivors include his three sisters (all of Stratford), Colleen Slane and her husband Joe, Kate McDonald, and Betsy Coleman and her husband Tom; two cherished nieces, Cara Slane and Alivia Coleman and one nephew, Maxwell Coleman, who always enjoyed his conversations with his uncle Kevin; his pride-and-joy horse, Marquesa and two corgi dogs, Buster and Bonnie, along with many cousins and friends.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, June 3, 2017 from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. in the William R. McDonald Funeral Home, 2591 Main St., Stratford, CT followed by a service at 3:30 p.m. Inurnment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Kevin's memory may be made to The Foundation for the Pure Spanish Horse Association, 115 Elm St., N.E., Albuquerque, NM, www.prehorse.org , The Horse Boy Foundation, www.horseboyfoundation.org , or the Wounded Warrior Project, www.woundedwarriorproject.org . For additional information or to share a message of condolence, visit www.wrmcdonaldfuneralhome.com.
