Serving Our Community Since 1951Kurt Alfred Brackert, age 88 of Stratford, beloved husband of the late Marilyn (Aniolowski) Brackert, passed away Thursday, September 29, 2022, at Bridgeport Hospital surrounded by his loving family. Mr. Brackert was born June 30, 1934, in Bridgeport, son of the late John and Mary (Lepple) Brackert and was a lifelong area resident.
He was a United States Army veteran and a retired Home Improvement Contractor. He was a Fairfield University graduate and Central High School graduate where he was class president. He enjoyed fishing and gardening, reading mysteries, watching classic films and basketball games. He was a star basketball player at Bridgeport Central High School. His passion for the sport inspired him to watch and cheer for the UCONN women’s basketball team every year.
He enjoyed his time in retirement, traveling with his wife Marilyn to places like Europe, Alaska, Egypt, The Caribbean, and Russia to name a few.
Family meant everything to Kurt. He helped with the holiday cooking, built a tree house in the back yard for his grandchildren, and every year oversaw the Ultra-Competitive, “Find the Pickle on the Christmas tree” contest. He also hid Easter Eggs for the great hunt. He loved going to see his grandchildren at dance recitals, their sporting events, plays, concerts, and Scouting events, especially their Eagle Scout Projects. Kurt was always willing to give a helping hand when needed. He also loved Sunday family dinners and weekly trips to Burger King with his great grandchildren.
Survivors include his two daughters, June McEnteer and her husband Kevin of Oxford, CT and Linda Christensen and her husband Paul of Leesburg, VA; four grandchildren, Christopher McEnteer, Peter Christensen and his wife Lindsey, Colleen Loftis and her husband Michael and Thomas Christensen; three great-granddaughters, Leyah and Jordan Christensen, and Lace Loftis; a great-grandson, Connor Loftis as well as several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by two brothers, John and Ralph Brackert.
Friends are invited to visit with his family on Wednesday, October 5, 2022, from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. in the William R. McDonald Funeral Home, 2591 Main St., Stratford. A Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:30 a.m. in Saint James Church, 2070 Main St., Stratford. Interment with military honors will be in Saint Michael’s Cemetery.
