Obituary for Lady Lois Margaret Luther
Lois Margaret (Wellner) Luther, age 83, of Shelton, beloved wife of the late Harry Luther Sr., passed away peacefully in her home Sunday, December 20, 2020. Known to her family and friends as “Mama/Lady Lois”, she was born July 2, 1937 in Bridgeport, daughter of the late Amos and Mae (Biefield) Wellner and had been a lifelong area resident.
Lois was a retired HR Director for various companies and can trace her family lineage back seven Stratford generations. She met her husband dancing at the Ritz Ballroom in Bridgeport, CT, and within six months they were married in 1957. They originally moved to Ansonia before building their current home in Huntington, CT. She and her husband were world travelers, having traveled to Egypt, Jordan, India, Czech Republic, Yugoslavia, Hungry, Austria, Greece, Central America, Belize, Guatemala, and many times to Germany and Mexico. They also traveled extensively throughout the United States visiting the National Parks. She especially enjoyed her trip in 2018 from Beijing to Hong Kong, where she visited Disneyland, and sailed down the Yangzi River. She also enjoyed her yearly vacations in Provincetown for decades. She also was blessed to go camping, and enjoyed Western dance, cooking and sewing. She was the real matriarch of the Luther home and our “Martha Stewart”.
Survivors include her devoted sons, Harry “Corky” Luther and Martin Ty Luther; sister Audrey Wellner; nieces and nephews, Linda and Laura Luther, Charles, Gregory and Jeffery Wellner, and Richard Evans.
Friends are invited to attend her funeral service on Saturday, January 9, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. by meeting directly at Union Cemetery, 23 Temple Court, Stratford. Face masks and social distancing are required. Friends and family are invited to continue the celebration of Lois’ life after the service. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the ASPCA, aspca.org/donate. For additional information or to share a message of condolence, visit www.wrmcdonaldfuneralhome.com.
