Obituary for Laurel Salvaggio Ernst
Laurel Salvaggio Ernst, of Lordship Connecticut, passed away peacefully on June 10, 2017 surrounded by family and friends after a long illness. She was 63 years old. Born in Bridgeport, CT, she was the daughter of the late Santo and Louise Salvaggio of Lordship, CT. Â
Laurel graduated from Stratford High and Southern Connecticut State University. She went on to  receive a degree in Art Therapy from Albertus Magnus College and a Masters of Education from Teachers College, Columbia University. Ultimately, she went on to teach in schools and universities in New York, Connecticut, and Bermuda, including Eagle Hill School in Greenwich, CT, Bell Middle School in Chappaqua, NY, The Hewitt School in New York, NY, and most recently at Greens Farms Academy in Westport, CT where she was an adored advocate for her students. She also regularly taught teaching courses at Long Island University and was a devoted tutor to many students in the New York area.  Â
Outside of her career, Laurel was a loving mother, a lover of nature and animals, and an enthusiastic traveler particularly fond of trips to Europe and Cape Cod. Paris, Venice, and Salzburg, where she was married, were among her favorite destinations. Â
She is survived by her son, Cody Ernst, of San Francisco, CA; Bob Ernst of Stamford, CT; sister, Suellen Hansen of Oxford, CT; nephew and niece-in-law, Kris and Donna Hansen of Lordship, CT; nieces, Martha Hansen and Samantha Bassett of Oxford, CT; and great-nieces and nephews, Morgan, Will, Eliza, Gia, and Finn. Â
A funeral service celebrating Laurel’s life will be held Friday, June 16th, 2017 at 9:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Peace Church, 651 Stratford Rd, Stratford with a short memorial following at Russian Beach.
