Obituary for Luis Rivera
Luis Rivera, age 63 of Stratford, beloved husband of Gail (White) Rivera passed away Sunday, July 5, 2020, at home with his family by his side. Luis was born May 25, 1957 in Moca, Puerto Rico.
He was diagnosed with Hermansky Pudlak Syndrome at age 55. He received a lung transplant on 09/02/2013 which gave us almost 7 extra years with him.
He was a retired Central Supply Technician for various hospitals in NYC. He was an avid Yankee fan, a Trivia and Science Fiction buff and enjoyed collecting movies and records. In his earlier years he enjoyed carpentry and was a true handyman. After his transplant Luis enjoyed making scarves and hats and selling them at various craft shows to raise money to help cover medical costs.
In addition to his wife he is survived by a son, Luis Matthew Rivera of Stratford, daughter, Lydia Limiero and her husband William of Cape Coral Florida; siblings, Jose Rivera, Marianna Sarante, Maria Jimenez and Benjamin Rivera, grandchildren, Sydney Marie Rivera, Marleigh Hope Rivera, Isabella Limiero, Zoey Limiero, and Gianna Limiero, and many nieces, nephews and cousins on both sides of the family.
He was predeceased by a son, Mark Rivera; Siblings, Linda Barriera and Chris Rivera; and his parents Elena and Cheo Rivera.
The family would like to thank the New York Columbia Presbyterian Lung Transplant Team for giving Luis the “Gift of Life”. Their continued care and support was deeply appreciated and treasured.
The family would also like to thank family and friends for all their love and support. This enabled the family to bring Luis home for a peaceful journey to Heaven surrounded by loved ones during this pandemic.
A memorial service and celebration of his life will be planned when it is safe for all to gather.
