Obituary for Maria (Mary) Primavera
Maria (Mary) Primavera, 88, of Cathedral City, CA (formerly of Stratford, CT), passed away on Thursday, September 6, 2018 at Victoria Royale, a retirement home in California.
Daughter of the late Fedele and Venusta (Toni) Primavera, Maria was born on September 16, 1929 in Albany, NY. Soon after her family moved to Stratford, CT where she attended school and excelled in sports. After graduation from Stratford High School, Maria worked for Raybestos-Manhattan Corp and was an all-star pitcher for the Raybestos Brakettes from 1947 until 1952 when her dreams and aspirations took her to the West Coast. She was first employed as an Administrative Assistant at a large land development company in Orange County. Several years later, she set her sights on the Palm Springs, CA area and worked in the hotel industry until her retirement.
Maria will be fondly remembered for her out-going personality and cheerful disposition. She was not only a talented athlete, but also a gifted vocalist, who knew the lyrics to all of Tony Bennett, Al Martino and Frank Sinatra’s greatest hits and would “light up a room” with her renditions of them. She always had a smile on her lovely face and a song in her heart.
Maria was pre-deceased by her four siblings: Bruno Primavera, Delia Verna, Vera McGuire and Ida Lyons. She is survived by numerous nieces and grand-nieces, nephews and grand-nephews.
Friends are invited to attend her funeral on Wednesday, September 19, 2018 at 9:30 a.m. in the William R. McDonald Funeral Home, 2591 Main Street, Stratford, CT and at 10:30 a.m. in St. James Church, 2070 Main St., Stratford, CT for a Funeral Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will follow in St. Michael’s Cemetery, 2205 Stratford Ave., Stratford, CT.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Maria’s memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America, Stratford High School Scholarship Fund or a charity of one’s choice.
