Obituary for Mary Elizabeth DeVaney
Mary Elizabeth (Wynne) DeVaney, age 94, of Milford, formerly of Stratford, beloved wife of the late Martin J. DeVaney passed away Wednesday, December 4, 2019 in Bridgeport Hospital surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Bridgeport April 21, 1925, daughter of the late Mary Cullinan Wynne and Patrick Joseph Wynne.
Mary was a sweet, compassionate woman who touched many people’s lives. She attended St. Patrick’s School, and graduated from St. John’s Commercial High School.
Upon graduation, Mary was employed by Jenkin’s Valve Co. as an Engineering Secretary. With children raised, Mary was employed by the Bassick Co. as a Manufacturing Engineering Secretary, and later as Manager of Sikorsky Security Badge Dept. Mary was a life-time member of the Hibernian Mae King LAOH Div. 65, Bridgeport, VFW Aux. #9460, Stratford and the Gaelic American Club, Fairfield. She was also a proud member of the Red Hat Society.
Mary’s greatest achievement are her children, Martin, Mary Ellen Granberg (Al), Susan DeVaney (Nancy Terpin) and beloved granddaughter, Allison Granberg. She is also survived by wonderful nieces and nephews, their children and grandchildren. Paul, David, Rory Standish; Sally Harris, Winnie, Jack Wynne; Kevin, Karen Powers, Michelle Renaud Armstrong, Katie Foster, David Renaud; Mary Ellen McGarry, Sharon, Billy Dunn, Margaret Mastroni, Patrick Wynne, Mary Wynne Graft.
In addition to her parents she was predeceased by her son, Martin J. DeVaney, Jr and nine siblings - James, Catherine, Francis, John, Patricia, Margaret, Anne, Billy and Patrick, Jr.’ nephews, Woody Standish, Brian Renaud; a great nephew Connor Wynne and niece, Kathy Wynne.
Mary was truly grateful for the compassionate care from her special nieces who strongly advocated for their dear Aunt. She treasured the support and friendship from Susan Atherton, Pat Samuels and Joan Lanci.
Friends are invited to attend a Funeral Mass of Christian Burial on Monday, December 9, 2019 at 10:30 a.m. by meeting directly at Saint James Church, 2070 Main St., Stratford.
Interment will be private.
Friends may visit with her family Sunday, December 8, 2019 from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. in the William R. McDonald Funeral Home, 2591 Main St., Stratford.
