Obituary for Mary F. Murphy
Mary F. Murphy, age 96, of Shelton, formerly of Oronoque Village Stratford and Bridgeport, passed away, Saturday, December 18, 2021, in the Connecticut Hospice, Branford. Mary was born December 31, 1924, in Bridgeport, daughter of the late Charles and Anna (Cunningham) Murphy and had been a lifetime area resident.
Mary was a graduate from Bassick High School in the class of 1942 and then attended business school. She worked for many years with the law firm of Coles, O’Connell, Dolan and McDonald prior to her retirement. She was an avid bridge player, a member of the Red Hat ladies, enjoyed bowling, was a voracious reader who was always up to date on the bestsellers book list, had a handle on the local real estate market, enjoyed a spirited political discussion, and always enjoyed a good meal. Above all things, Mary was especially proud of her family and enjoyed spending time with them and took special delight in the antics of the little ones.
Survivors include, her nephew, Patrick of Stratford, three nieces, Mary and Ron Goodwin of Cohasset, Massachusetts, Eileen Murphy of Derby, and Kate Murphy of Black Rock, six great nieces and nephews, Sean (Stacy), Elizabeth (Anthony) Staffieri, Benjamin (Katie), and Colleen (Matt) Murphy and Margaret and Tara Goodwin; her cousins Stephen Kent and Erin Fink, and many great-great nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her brothers Charles, William and his wife, Theresa Murphy, and a nephew, Michael. The family would like to extend special thanks to Cassandra, Zelma and the staff at Crosby Commons for their care of Mary over the last year.
Friends are invited to attend a Funeral Mass of Christian Burial on Wednesday, December 22, 2021, at 11:00 a.m. by meeting directly at Saint Mark Church, 500 Wigwam Lane, Stratford. Interment will follow in Saint Michael’s Cemetery, Stratford.
