Obituary for Milutin Nedeljkovic
Milutin “Louie” Nedeljkovic, age 85 of Bridgeport, CT, passed away in his home on Wednesday, January 26, 2022. He was born in Čačak, Serbia on September 21, 1936, son of Borika and Vojmir Nedeljkovic. Milutin moved from Serbia to Paris in his 20s and married Jerina Neskovic in 1967. In 1973, he and his family emigrated to and settled in Bridgeport, where he resided until his death.
Milutin was an affectionate, hardworking and kind man who would give the shirt off his back to someone in need. He was generous and always had a dollar in his pocket for every child he encountered and told them it “was for ice cream.” He was a talented tradesman who excelled in the field of carpentry, which he continued to practice long after his retirement. He was known locally as “Louie the Carpenter” whose many word-of-mouth referrals led to numerous new projects, much of which helped to sustain his family. His strong work ethic was widely appreciated as he was reliable, diligent and honest. He was passionate about his carpentry work, and he continued to hone his craft for 60+ years.
He leaves behind his daughters Vesna Cottrell and Olivera Uberti; his wife of 54 years, Jerina; his grandchildren Charlotte Louise Cottrell and Isabella Paige Uberti: his siblings Dara Mattica, and Zdravko Nedeljkovic; as well as many nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
He was predeceased by his brothers, Bora in France, Radojica in Serbia, and Milivoje in London.
Milutin enjoyed reading, watching and playing soccer, studying geography and maps, making morning treks to Dunkin Donuts to meet friends, fixing broken things, collecting random pieces of wood (because he might need it someday), listening to opera, dancing, and spending time with family. He could never turn down a piece of kielbasa, bread or a glass of Serbian plum brandy. He often looked forward to his trips to Europe to visit his brothers, family and friends, and enjoyed returning to the farm in Serbia where he grew up.
We will convene on Thursday, February 3, 2022, at William R. McDonald Funeral Home in Stratford, CT. Visitations will occur from 10:00am–12:00pm, and at noon a ceremonial funeral service will be held, with interment immediately following at Union Cemetery in Stratford.
