Obituary for Norma Booth McDonald

Norma Claire (Booth) McDonald age 91, of Stratford, beloved wife of the late William R. McDonald entered eternal life on October 20, 2012, in her home surrounded by her loving family. Norma was born November 3, 1920 in New Haven, daughter of the late Fred and Clara (Hook) Booth. Originally from Bridgeport, she and her parents moved to Stratford in 1938 where she lived for the past 74 years. In 1946, Norma married the love of her life William (Mac) McDonald. In 1951, they co-founded the William R. McDonald Funeral Home in Stratford where she served as Vice President for 50 years and had the honor of being inducted into “Who’s Who of Women Entrepreneurs.” A graduate of Butler Business School, she was employed as a Court Stenographer and as an Administrative Assistant at Avco Lycoming prior to her marriage. Norma enjoyed summers on Swan Lake in Oxford, winters in Hillsboro Beach, Florida and traveling the world with family and friends. She loved to entertain, preparing every dinner as a feast and always enjoyed celebrating birthdays and holidays with family and friends. Her door on Main Street was always open and everyone was welcome. Norma was a woman of immense grace, beauty and strength and will be missed by all who shared in her kindness and generosity. She was a loving mother and grandmother who is survived by her four children, Kevin McDonald and his partner Rita Andrews of Texas, Colleen Slane and her husband Joe, Kathleen McDonald, her devoted caregiver for many years, and Maureen (Betsy) Coleman and her husband Tom, all of Stratford; five adored grandchildren, Joseph Slane and his wife Assunta, Meghan Slane and her partner Anthony Lemos, Cara Slane and Alivia and Maxwell Coleman; three great grandchildren, Joseph M. Slane, Jonathan Slane and Giovanni Lemos; two sisters-in–law, Florence Gomperts and Ruby Barthmaier and many nieces & nephews. The McDonald family would like to thank Yasmin Clarke for her aid over the past few years.
