Serving Our Community Since 1951Paul E. "Sonny" Martanis, age 88, of Milford, beloved husband for over 63 years to Bridget (Salvaggio) Martanis, passed away Wednesday, August 16, 2023 in Milford Hospital. Mr Martanis was born July 2, 1935 in Bridgeport, son of the late John and Sophie (Graze) Martanis and had been a lifelong area resident.
Paul was a retired carpenter, a graduate of Stratford High School and a proud United States Army 82nd Airborne veteran. He was an avid New York Giants fan and Dodgers fan. He was in the Housatonic Fly Fishing Association and also in the Newtown Rod and Gun Club. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping and all things outdoors but, most of all, loved spending time with his family.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include his son Michael Martanis and his wife Dawn; daughters Dallas and Sydney Stephen; son-in-law Tak Yoshikawa and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his son Paul Martanis; his daughter Nichole Stephen; a brother John and a sister Dorothy Krewsen.
Friends are invited to attend a Funeral Mass of Christian Burial on Thursday, August 24, 2023, at 11:30 a.m. by meeting directly at Saint Ann’s Church, 501 Naugatuck Ave, Milford, CT 06460. Interment with military honors will follow in Orange Center Cemetery.
Friends may visit with his family Wednesday evening from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in the William R. McDonald Funeral Home, 2591 Main Street, Stratford.
