Obituary for Philomena 'Fannie' (Derlitz) DeRose
DeRose – Philomena “Fannie” (Derlitz) DeRose, age 84, of Stratford, beloved wife of John DeRose, passed away peacefully, July 12, 2013 in her home surrounded by her loving family. Mrs. DeRose was born on July 2, 1929 in Brooklyn, NY, daughter of the late Frank and Mary (Regha) Derlitz and had been a longtime Stratford resident. Fannie was a devoted and active member of St. Mark’s Church. She was a volunteer at Lord Chamberlain Nursing Facility and was known to bring fresh fruit to the Merton House in Bridgeport. She loved to spend time at her beach cottage and Sunday macaroni dinners with the whole family. She loved to swim and just floating on the water was her form of meditation. Fannie always had a lunch plan with her sisters, or mass and lunch with her dear friend Rose. She traveled frequently with the Sikorsky Retiree Club and went on many wonderful trips. She had very close friends that met weekly to play cards and every Saturday was date night and often dancing. When anyone was hurt or ill she made them chicken soup. Fannie loved red roses or anything any shade of red. Survivors, in addition to her beloved husband, include her four children, Mary Petrino of Stratford, John “Jack” DeRose and his wife Carol of Stratford, Sue Nykaza and her husband Lenny of Shelton and Nancy DeRose Annecchino and her husband Lee of Glastonbury; three Sisters, Catherine Riggott of Milford, Margie Hodson and her husband Ernie of Monroe and Madeline Jascewsky and her husband Edward of Bolingbrook, IL; eleven Grandchildren, Jeannette Hirschfield, Cheryl Cusa, James Stewart, John Eric DeRose, Matthew DeRose, Sandi DeRose, Lindsay Troncone, Christine Hoffmann, John Michael Petrino, Paige Annecchino and Kyle Annecchino; ten great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Friends are invited to attend Philomena’s funeral service on Wednesday, July 17, 2013 at 9:30 a.m. in the William R. McDonald Funeral Home, 2591 Main St., Stratford, CT and at 10:30 a.m. in Saint James Church, Stratford for a Funeral Mass of Christian Burial celebrated by the Reverend Birendra Soreng. Interment will be private. Friends may visit with the family on Tuesday from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 2075 Silas Deane Highway, Suite 100, Rocky Hill, CT 06067.
