Obituary for Richard Keane
Richard Keane, age 78, beloved husband for 54 years of his cherished sweetheart and beaut Lynne (Greenwood) Keane of Stratford and Little River, SC, passed away peacefully with his family at his bedside on Tuesday, December 29, 2015.
Richard was born in Bridgeport, October 14, 1937, son of the late John Keane, Sr. and Alice (McTernan) Keane. He retired from Carpenter Technology as a Metallurgical Chemist and the Trumbull Board of Education. A graduate of Fairfield Prep he also attended Salem College Virginia, Bridgeport Engineering and Norwalk Community College. He was an avid sportsman, playing baseball and basketball. While at Fairfield Prep he participated in basketball and with teamwork helped win the CT State Championship. Richard was a life member of the Gaelic American Club and the Knights of Columbus.
In addition to his wife Lynne, he is survived by two sons Dennis Keane and his wife Lynn Bacon-Keane of San Diego, CA and Glenn Keane and his wife Anne of Shelton; his most cherished granddaughter Kelly Anne who loved her "POPPY" and many special nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by one brother John Jr. and five sisters Ann, Mary Alice, Peggy, Kate and Jane. The family would like to offer heartfelt thanks to the staff of Smilow Cancer Center of Fairfield for the care given to Richard over the past 2-1/2 years.
Friends are invited to attend his funeral on Wednesday, January 6, 2016 at 9:30 a.m. from the William R. McDonald Funeral Home, 2591 Main St., Stratford and at 10:30 a.m. in Our Lady of Peace Church, Lordship for a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will follow in Union Cemetery, Stratford. Calling hours will be Tuesday from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Richard's memory to the Smilow Cancer Hospital of Yale New Haven, 20 York St., New Haven, CT 06510.
