Serving Our Community Since 1951Richard "Rich" H. Syx, age 75, beloved husband for 52 years of Patricia (Lynch) Syx, passed away in his home in Stratford, on August 20, 2023 with his loving family and dear friend Jackie Navarro by his side. Mr. Syx was born March 3, 1948 in Brooklyn, NY, son of the late Willard and Beatrice (VonBorstel) Syx and had been a lifelong area resident.
In addition to his wife, Richard is survived by his son Christopher Henry (Rebecca) Syx and his daughter Melanie Beth (Jason) Ponte. He is preceded in death by his son, Richard Charles Syx. He was the proud grandfather of Amelia Charlize Syx, Logan Henry Syx, Marlaina Grace Syx and Elias Ponte. Richard is also survived by his sisters Cheryl and Claudia and brother Willard.
Richard was a gifted mechanic and was employed at UPS for 30 years. Richard loved golf, music, shooting movies, pictures, and videos. Richard’s artistic talent could be seen in the several movies he would develop, shoot, edit and produce. He was an avid and talented skier. Richard’s passion for life was contagious, his laugh was infectious, and he will be greatly missed. He was beloved by many and a gift to all which makes having to say goodbye so difficult. In the words of Irving Berlin, “The song is ended but the melody lingers on.”
Friends are invited to attend a Funeral Service on Friday, August 25, 2023, at 6:30 p.m. celebrated by Deacon John Piatak in the William R. McDonald Funeral Home, 2591 Main St., Stratford, CT 06615. Visitation with the family will begin at 3:00 p.m. until the time of the service. Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Richard’s name to the National Organization for Rare Diseases: National Organization for Rare Disorders | NORD (rarediseases.org).
