Obituary for Richard Stroomer
Richard Stroomer, age 76, of Bridgeport, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 12, 2021.
Mr. Stroomer was born October 28, 1945, in Bridgeport, son of the late Cornelius and Kathryn (Novak) Stroomer and had been a lifelong Bridgeport resident.
Richard proudly served his country as a member of the National Guard and for 35 years the citizens of Bridgeport with the Bridgeport Fire Department, retiring as a Pumper Engineer. “The Stroomer Room” with it’s barber chair was a place to chat and was the central repair shop. There wasn’t anything that Rich couldn’t design, build or repair. He was a machinist by trade, gunsmith, auto mechanic and woodworker and shared all of his knowledge and skill with anyone needing help, expecting nothing in return.
He was a member of the NRA and the North Haven Sportsmen Club. He enjoyed participating in local marksmanship competitions, and would come home with first place awards on many occasions. Richard also enjoyed NASCAR, fishing, hunting, and boating.
During the last 10 years he was a beloved resident of Northbridge Healthcare. There he continued to be of service to others and with weather permitting could be found outside soaking up the sun and greeting all who came by. He will be missed by the Northbridge community and especially his friends, Steve and Anne Kapitancek.
He is survived by his daughter, Tracy Murray; his sister, Kathryn Stroomer; two grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by his brothers, George Stroomer, Neil Stroomer and Larry Kozek.
The family would like to thank Northbridge Healthcare Center for the exquisite care and family environment they provided.
Friends are invited to attend a prayer service on Friday, November 19, 2021, at 1:00 p.m. in the William R. McDonald Funeral Home, 2591 Main St, Stratford. Interment will follow in St Michaels Cemetery.
Friends may visit with his family Friday before the Prayer Service from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. in the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to:
Northbridge Healthcare Center, Memory Care Unit, 2875 Main Street Bridgeport, CT 06606
