Serving Our Community Since 1951Richard William Plain, Sr., age 80, of Stratford, passed away peacefully Tuesday, September 27, 2022, in New Haven. Mr. Plain was born January 15, 1942, in Bridgeport, son of the late William and Clara (Gudas) Plain and had been a lifelong area resident.
He is survived by his two sons, Richard Plain Jr. and his wife Beth and Edward Plain and his wife Claudia; grandchildren, Alex, Gabrielle, Hannah and Natalie; one great-grandchild, Maximus; sister Janet Reilly and her husband Jim and their children and wives Jim (Darlene), Matt (Cheryl) Paul (Amy).
He resided in Stratford, CT. He was self-employed as a Land Surveyor and worked in Fairfield County for over 50 years. He loved his work and servicing his clients brought him great joy. He also served in the Army Reserves. He was a great father and a man of faith. He was a member of St. Agnes Church and later St. James Church. He spent much of his time praying to the Lord.
Richard was best known for his quick-witted humor, fierce determination and generous spirit. In his younger days, he was a member of the West Haven Pistol Club and competed in many competitions earning the honor of sharpshooter. Other hobbies included gardening and baking bread.
His sons continue on in the family business he created and continue to serve the community.
Friends are invited to attend a Funeral Mass of Christian Burial on Thursday, October 20, 2022, at 10:00 a.m. by meeting directly at Holy Name of Jesus Church, 1950 Barnum Ave, Stratford, CT. Interment to follow immediately in St Michael’s Cemetery.
