Obituary for Rita Champagney
Rita (Connell) Champagney, age 78, of Stratford, beloved wife of the late Roy Champagney passed away Thursday, September 25, 2014 in St. Vincent Medical Center, Bridgeport. Rita was born September 3, 1936, in Stratford, daughter of the late Edward and Anna (Castelot) Connell and had been a life time Stratford resident. She was a retired driver for the Stratford School System and lived a life filled with faith, family and friends. She was a parishioner of St. Mark Church where she was a Eucharistic Minister, she volunteered at Lord Chamberlain for the First Friday Mass, the Merton House, the Lord's Supper and Meals on Wheels, just to name a few. She was also an avid bowler and enjoyed her Wednesday Senior Bowling League. Rita is survived by her two children, John Champagney of Stratford, and Janet Wider of East Haven; three grandchildren Alyssa Champagney, David Wider and Jeffrey Wider; three sisters, Jean Gardecki and her husband Jerry of Stratford, Margaret Reynolds of Branford and Ruth Holt of Beacon Falls; a brother-in-law, Charles Wargo of Trumbull; a devoted niece Judy Reynolds who resided with Rita the last few years and many other nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by three brothers, Edward, James and John Connell and four sisters, Virginia and Mary Connell, Anna Wargo and Theresa Doherty. Friends are invited to attend a Funeral Mass of Christian Burial on Monday, September 29, 2014 at 10:00 AM by meeting directly at St. Mark Church, 500 Wigwam Lane, Stratford. Interment will follow in Nichols Farm Burial Ground, Trumbull, CT. Friends may call Sunday from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. in the William R. McDonald Funeral Home, 2591 Main St. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Rita's memory to St. Mark Church Building Fund, 500 Wigwam Lane, Stratford, CT 06614.
