Obituary for Robert Thomas Hamilton
Robert Thomas Hamilton, age 87, of Stratford, passed away on Tuesday, January 26, 2016 surrounded by his family. He is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years, Ruth (Baribeau) Hamilton.
Bob was born on April 26, 1928 in Mount Vernon, NY to Robert and Eleanor (Barritt) Hamilton. He graduated from Harding High School and served in the Army in the Korean Conflict. He was retired from a 38-year career at U.S. Motors. He coached his sons' little league teams and was active in the Baldwin Center Men's club. Bob enjoyed rooting for the Mets, Giants, and UConn men's and women's basketball, as well as playing golf and fishing. He also enjoyed attending his grandchildren's sporting events. Most of all he loved vacationing at Caroga Lake.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his loving sons, Thomas (Lori) and James (Frances); his grandchildren, Brian (Melinda), Christopher, Kyle, Douglas, and Lucy; his great-grandson Jack, his sisters-in-law Agnes "Mickey" Hamilton and Claire Graham; and several nieces & nephews. His brother George predeceased him. The family would like to thank the Nurses and staff on the 4th floor of Lord Chamberlain for their compassionate care during Bob's final days.
Friends may visit with the family on Sunday, January 31, 2016 from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. in the William R. McDonald Funeral Home, 2591 Main St., Stratford, CT. Friends are invited to attend his Funeral Service on Monday, February 1, 2016 at 9:30 a.m. in the funeral home and at 10:30 a.m. in St. James Church, Stratford for a Funeral Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will follow in Union Cemetery, Stratford.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Bob's memory to "Care of Our Father's House" c/o St. James Church, 2110 Main St., Stratford, CT 06615 or The Alzheimer's Association. And, if you get a chance, remember Bob by taking a youngster to see a baseball game. He'd like that.
