Obituary for Roseann (McMahon) Campbell
Roseann (McMahon) Campbell, age 97 of Stratford, beloved wife of the late Charles Campbell peacefully entered eternal life on Monday, March 21, 2022, in St Mary’s Vitas Hospital, Waterbury, CT.
Mrs. Campbell was born May 3, 1924, in Monessen, Pennsylvania, daughter of the late John Patrick and Ethel (Flick) McMahon. She graduated from Seton Hill University with honors and went on to Ohio University to work as a Dietitian. At Ohio U she met the love of her life Charles, who was attending on a GI Bill. They were married in Canton Ohio and soon after moved to Bridgeport, Connecticut. Two years later they purchased a home in Stratford where they raised their children, Alan John, Bruce and Cathy (twins) and Laurie.
The Campbells were dedicated educators. Roseann received her teaching certification from University of Bridgeport by attending in the evening and then joined Charles as a teacher at Warren Harding High School. Roseann was to eventually become the head of the Home Economics Department. Roseann was not afraid to let her feelings known and joined the movement to unionize the Bridgeport teachers and participated in a walk-out from her job. The whole group was found to be in contempt of a court order and was hauled off to jail (Camp Ella Grasso). Charles was on the other side of the fence as Department Head and could not participate. In the end it was a favorable outcome for the teachers. She was awarded by the faculty for her 23 years of running the A.M. Teachers Coffee Lounge "La Exigente".
Roseann was able to take early retirement and move with Charles to Oronoque Village in Stratford, where they enjoyed the participated in social activities and planned many travel excursions.
Survivors include her children, Bruce Campbell and his life partner Faro Naraghi, Laurie Carnal and her husband Frank and Cathy Mila and her children Erica and David Welchman, Jessica and Jose Valle. She was predeceased by a son, Alan Campbell, who is survived by his wife Patricia and their children Meghan and her spouse Gerry, Emily Webster and her fiancé Eric Coleman and Maureen and Griffin Petri. Her great-grandchildren (and they are great!) are Ryan Webster, Elora and Luciana Valle, Rory and James Petri and Wyatt and Riker Welchman.
She is predeceased by her siblings John (Jack) McMahon, Mary Grace King, William (Regis) McMahon, Thomas McMahon and Regina Welch.
