Obituary for Ruth Eileen (McMahon) Mercer Curley
Ruth Eileen (McMahon) Mercer Curley, age 95, of Stuart, Florida and previously of Stratford, CT, beloved wife of the late John Curley and Roland J. Mercer, passed away Sunday, January 20, 2019 in in Palm City, Florida. Â
Ruth was born May 5, 1923 in Bridgeport, daughter of the late Lawrence J. and Catherine E. (Cosgrove) McMahon. Â
Ruth was a graduate of St. Charles Grammar School, Warren Harding High School and the Waylister Business School and a retired secretary for Remington Arms, Singer and the Bridgeport Chamber of Commerce.
She enjoyed traveling throughout the world with her husband, Jack, and later with the St. Mark Travel Group. She was also a volunteer at Martin Memorial Hospital in Stuart, Florida for many years. Â
Survivors include her three daughters, Barbara Mercer Panek and her husband Michael of Newtown, Karen Mercer Derleth and her husband Robert of Trumbull, CT, Maureen Curley Krosin of Palm City, FL; one son, Frederick Curley and his wife Maryann of Fayetteville, NC; Â five grandchildren, Samantha Curley Britt (Mark), Dr. Matthew Krosin (Sara), John Curley, Brendan Derleth, Ashlinn Derleth; four great-grandchildren, Drew and Cody Britt and Emmett and Tristan Krosin and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her brother, The Reverend Monsignor Lawrence J. McMahon and a special cousin, Frank C. Patterson.Â
Friends are invited to attend a Funeral Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, January 26, 2019 at 11:30 a.m. by meeting directly at Saint Mark Church, 500 Wigwam Lane, Stratford.Â
Interment will follow in Saint Michael’s Cemetery, Stratford.Â
Friends may visit with her family from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday January 25, 2019 in the William McDonald Funeral Home, 2591 Main Street, Stratford.Â
In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Monsignor Lawrence J. McMahon Memorial Scholarship Fund which provides an annual scholarship for a St. Mark Parish student entering a Catholic High School, C/O Karen Derleth, 37 Bull Frog Lane, Trumbull, CT 06611 or to Treasure Coast Hospice, 1201 South East Indian St, Stuart, Florida 34997Â Â Â
