Obituary for Sally (McMahon) Buchanan
Sally (McMahon) Buchanan, age 86, of Stratford, beloved wife of the late Raymond Buchanan, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Saturday, January 2, 2016 in the Lord Chamberlain Nursing Facility, Stratford. Mrs. Buchanan was born April 7, 1929 in Bridgeport, daughter of the late Stephen and Sadie (Graham) McMahon and had been a life time area resident.
Sally was a retired Secretary for the Bridgeport Health Department. She had also worked for the Board of Education, Harding High School, was an EMS Operator and was a receptionist at the Barnum Museum..
She was an avid fan of UCONN Women's Basketball, loved to knit, play scrabble, and do crossword and jigsaw puzzles. She was a volunteer at Doll Crafters at Oronoque Village and the Kennedy Center Thrift Shop.
Survivors include her five devoted daughters, Diane DeGennaro of North Carolina, Patricia Greene and her husband Andy of Stratford, Mary Ellen Krakowski and her husband Rich of Florida, Barbara Cafferty and her husband Mike of Tennessee and Laurie Torchia and her husband Jim of Massachusetts; seven grandchildren, Kristina Krakowski, Amanda Greene and her fiancé, Chris Birchmeier, Kelly Torchia, Courtney Krakowski, Danielle Cafferty, Kevin Torchia and Matthew Cafferty; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by a brother and sister, Stephen McMahon and Marianne Prestas.
Friends may visit with the family Thursday from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m at William R. McDonald Funeral Home 2591 Main St, Stratford, CT. A Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, January 8, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. by meeting directly at Our Lady of Grace Church, 497 Second Hill Lane, Stratford, CT. Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Sally may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 2080 Silas Deane Hwy, Rocky Hill, CT 06067.
